Online Poker
Online poker is simply the term used to describe playing poker over the internet. Internet poker has been an increasingly popular industry since its inception a few years ago. In fact, the revenues from online poker in 2005 were estimated to be more than 200 million dollars per month.
One reason that online poker is so popular is that the limits are set much lower than the traditional method of playing poker in brick and mortar casinos. Limits in traditional casinos are typically around one to two dollars per minimum. Limits in internet poker rooms, however, can often be found at just one or two cents per minimum. This gives many people more security when playing simply because they are not forced to bet as much money as they would be in a traditional casino.

Online poker sites also normally offer bonus incentives to get people to play. The bonuses are normally offered for players who deposit a specific amount of money and play a specific number of raked hands. Bonuses can be very significant sometimes more than $100, depending on the online casino in question and the game being played. A player who wins can add more money to their winnings using the bonus feature if it is offered.
Possibly one of the greatest assets of playing internet poker is the ability to pull off a bluff. Since you are playing at home or at the office, others cannot see your face. When bluffing it is important to keep your emotions from showing. If you are playing online poker, it is safe to assume that you will be completely able to bluff your way out of even the worst hand imaginable. Others will not have a clue as to what you are feeling, so you can bluff them all the way to the bank. Since internet poker consists of cards being dealt via your computer screen, you simply sit back and wait for your hand to be shown. There are no worries about dealing and shuffling cards or about losing your poker chips. Everything is kept completely organized and easy for you to maintain.
Possibly a disadvantage is losing the camaraderie that normally comes with playing poker. While many online poker sites offer chat while playing, you do not have the smoky room and conversation that you would have in a normal poker game. Still, many players prefer internet poker to normal poker simply because the game is more laid back and the bet minimums are much better.
Finding your favorite online poker room may be the hardest aspect of playing internet poker. There are several thousand websites that offer poker online. Many offer several ways in which to deposit your funds for playing. You simply choose your site, deposit your money and you are on your way to playing. Many sites also offer help areas in case you are not sure exactly how to play and several have forums for you to gain additional information about the game.
