Many poker players, especially beginners, will be overly excited when they are dealt a pocket pair. While a pocket pair is a good starting hand you should be careful and not fall in love with them. If you have pocket Aces or face cards you are in a good position but other pocket pairs you have to be wary of. The chances of you hitting a matching card to your pair are slim, as there are only 2 more of the cards in the deck. If you have a decent pocket pair you can bet accordingly, but if you do not you should bet conservatively and check bets when they come to you.

If you have a pocket pair that is 10’s or lower the chances of a higher card coming out giving someone else a higher pair is very good. If the betting is getting heated up with a significant amount in the pot before the flop comes out and you only have a decent pocket pair you should consider folding. Unless your opponents are bluffing they are betting strong with higher cards and the chances of you getting beat is good. So even though it looks attractive do not fall in love with a pocket pair.
