When you sit down at the table to play poker you can learn a lot about a player by their chip stack. Generally if a player has a nice and neat stack of chips they are a tight player. Conversely, if a player has all their chips in a mess around their area they are probably a loose player. If you determine what type of player they are before a hand is even dealt you have already started the game with an advantage. A tight player will be one that you do not want to bluff on often and if they bet, chances are, they probably are holding a good hand.

A loose player will be one that bets often even if they have a bad hand and they are never afraid to bluff. If you know what type of player you are up against you should know how to bet. So next time you sit down at the table look at your opponent’s chip stack and try to determine what type of player they are.
